Do teachers actually make a difference to society?

     

         Absolutely, yes. Thanks to education, teachers can change behavior, ideas, attitudes of people. some of them don’t aware of the bad habits but with education they can realize and start to decrease them in society. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said that “Teachers: the new generation will be your devotion” and “our great ideal is to raise our nation to highest standards of civilization and prosperity.” Therefore, teacher can change the new generations’ behaviors and idea. New generation is the most important feature of one country. Teacher plays an important role of students and they see teacher as a model or idol. Therefore, teachers should avoid misbehavior and they should guide students. Teachers can teach many things both parents and students because some parents can learn many things from their children so teacher can educate society and increase their awareness about life. Teacher should consider students’ background knowledge, morality and social life as much as abilities and proficiency levels because students cannot be separated from their environment and teachers should believe and trust them. Therefore, teacher can reach them to change their misbehavior or create good behavior. If teacher trust students, students will trust teachers and respect them.

My Superteacher

   Teacher should have some abilities to be an effective. Teacher should use theoretical knowledge and applies them in class (practicing). Teacher should consider students backround knowledge, activate students’ schemata and their environmental relationship (parent, friends). S/he should monitor/observe students behaviors and manage the class (time, distrubting students etc.) 

         Teacher should consider every students’ abilities and skills. S/he should aware of their different characteristics and guide them to teach better. S/he should reach an every students at the same time. s/he should be well prepared and well planned about the content because there can be some clasroom management problems during the lesson. S/he has to decide what s/he will do if there are any problems. 






        S/he should understand students' feelings and needs without judgment.Teacher should express himself/herself in front of the class. Teacher should be eager to learn new things and implement them into class. For example, every teacher should use computers and integrate them into class. 

         Teacher should use new materials to activate students background knowledge and these materials should be authentic and they should reflect real life situation. If teacher put some rules in the classes, students have to apply these rules and respect to teacher because after teacher making responsibilities, students have started to trust teacher. Teacher should believe in students and there should be interaction in the class.  Teacher sometimes can be authority but teaching should be student-centered. 





        After teaching, teacher should evaluate himself/herself and reformulate the problematic issues. Moreover, teacher can give some feedbacks to the students after the classes about their mistakes because some students don’t want to take any feedback in the classroom environment

. 

 

         I think, error correction is the most important part of the education because if students sont aware of this situation, errors can be fossilized and teacher should be corrected them after the classes or teacher does not correct them and s/he wants them to corects themselves by using some techniques and drills. Also, teacher should be patient while teaching.  

       I think, my superteacher has all those ideas, abilities and features.

Personal Statement

1.                       Why do you want to be a teacher?

I am an EFL student and I choose this department because I like teaching and I like children. After graduated, I will have many opportunities because English teacher can work with many different fields but I will be a teacher.  I will meet many different students and I like find new materials for them and I am a creative person. I am a diligent person, so I can search more things to be helpful to my students. Teachers should be patient and I am so patient I can give answers for my students questions easily (more than one). The hardest part of education is that students have different characteristics and teacher should think their abilities to observe them in the class. I do not want to be regular teacher. I will not be sure what students learn in the classes. Anyone cannot sure that I will query myself what missing is, and how theories can be adapted into class and how I can integrate CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) into class. In every time, I will gain many experiences from my students. I want to improve myself in every time and before coming the class teacher should be planned. There can be some problems in the class and teacher should find a solution.

2.                       Describe any experiences you have had working with children.

I worked in Kindergarten in Güzelyurt in Cyprus in 2015. I like teaching English and I think I was good at it.  Sometimes management of classroom was difficult because of age of students but I like them. They were more eager to learn new things than adults and you can teach anything to them but you have to use authentic and real life materials while teaching. They wanted to sing a song and they attached themselves to teachers so you have to be careful. Teacher will be model for them and the important thing is that if students run across a qualified teacher, this will be a great chance for them in their whole life. Teacher should activate students’ schemata while teaching and students can gain many experiences at the end of the lesson. Teacher has to use more colorful materials and finding activities (more games). Sharing ideas with friends also important thing for students in the classes because they can learn from each other.

3.                       What do you hope to learn this year? By the time you graduate?

I have learned many things in my educational life and I am happy with that. I want to use all of them in my professional life. Hopefully, I will. I want to be an efficient teacher. I have learned how to approach my students and how class can be efficient. 

ALL ABOUT ME

Hello everyone! :)  My name is Tuğba İnciman, I was born on August 31th. I am a Turkish citizen and this makes me feel happy because my country is beautiful and I love it. I am currently at Middle East Technical University studying Teaching English as a Foreign Language because there are many opportunities to improve myself and I like teaching something with authentic materials. English is a global language so if I learn and teach it, this will help me to improve myself. I want to be an efficient language teacher in the future. What I like about my studies is getting new experience and learning every day and broading my horizon. I like linguistic, lexicon and literature classes. I want to continue my MA degree with these fields. What I dislike about my studies is a bit hard to follow all instructions at the same time (having 6 or 7 difficult lessons) because of my mother tongue is Turkish but I love English. I am an ambitious person. My home is Konya in Turkey and I have lived here since I was born. My favorite activities include listening to music, singing, watching series and I love to do these because these make me feel more comfortable and free while doing these. My favorite meal involves fish and my favorite snack food is chocolate. The person who supports me the most is father and my precious in my life they have helped me to deal with all my problems. My great inspiration is being a successful teacher in the future. I will be I know that. J The best time of the day for me is the day coming back home because I feel more comfortable and happier spending time with my family. Moreover, I like my dorm mates so much. My role model is my mother because she has many difficulties in her life and she has never gave up on his thoughts. She is so strict like me and she is so strong. I am like her in every moment in my life.

When I was a little I remember that I always ask my father what are behind the mountains J My childhood was generally negative and this is because my father and my mother worked and I couldn’t see them enough. I always found school to be fun and this is because I had many friends and I played game with them in school.  The best teacher I have ever had was my English teacher because she gave importance of our ideas and she was model for me. She was so cute and clever. I do not want to say that there is the worst teacher in my life but there was L he was a physics teacher. He did not like teaching and we always lecture subjects of course to our classmates. I do not want to be like this type of teacher. I will always trust my students and I will be creative teacher. The only problematic part of my education style can be I am so strict in the class. Other than that, I will improve myself and I will think my students individually. The best thing anyone has ever said to me is that you will be a great teacher in the future. HopefullyJ. The worst thing anyone has ever said to me is that being angry at something.

In my twenties, I hope to achieve to finish my university with a higher grade. In my thirties, I hope to achieve to finish my MA and PHD degrees and find a good job.  I want to have a family and I hope to achieve to have a beautiful and happy life with my family. In my fourties, I hope to achieve to become successful and I want to travel many places. I like seeing new places. I believe that I am happy while I am doing beneficial things in my life. The goals I will be interested in new areas to improve myself all the time of my life. I am worried about the future of Turkish education system. I will be part of this system but there are many problems and I will meet them. I hope that I have a chance to solve them.

I am happy when my father proud of me and it is important to achieve success and grow my children and my students with success.
