How many words do you know?

Testing Vocabulary Proficiency

I tested my vocabulary level with some web-based tests such as “Duolingo Test Center”, “Test Your Word Knowledge”, “Test your Vocab” and “Vocabulary Ugent”. I took good results except from Duolingo. I think, it is the hardest one. The hardest part is the fill in the blanks part. I did not catch the meaning of the sentences while passing time. The others are similar each other but in Duolingo, there are many parts. My result is a bit low because there is a time limit. The other tests do not take the information to the students. Students are only say that I know this word meaning or not and push the buttons or ticking what they know. For example in Vocabulary Ugent, students will get 100 letter sequences, some of which are existing English words (American spelling) and some of which are made-up nonwords. They will press the F or J key. J means that YES, I know this word and F : NO, I don't know this word. I think, the most reliable one is Duolingo. However, students should be careful and give attention to test their vocabulary level.
How can you improve your vocabulary?
You have to read. This is common recommendation I know. If you read it can be basic, it will help you to increase your vocabulary level. Practice the words afterwards. if you learn new vocab, use it in the context. On the other hand, you will loose it.
